Canada's only female skip bringing her team to Halifax

Joanne MacDonald will be the only female skip at the 2010 Nationals

Newfoundland and Labrador's provincial team will play a series of exhibition games at the Halifax CC this weekend, February 13-14, against Team Nova Scotia. Both teams finished at 3-6 at last year's Nationals in Nova Scotia.

Newfoundland and Labrador lost their skip when Chris Daw relocated to Vancouver, so Joanne MacDonald steps up from 3rd and will become the first woman to skip a provincial side.  Darlene Jackman, Lanie Woodfine and Felix Green all return from last year's rookie provincial squad.

Team Nova Scotia have added Debbie Earle to last year's team, and the exhibitions will be their first opportunity to compete as a provincial unit.

Games are at 9am and 1pm on February 13th, and 11am and 3.30pm on the 14th.

Hi Eric,

Any idea when the rest of the teams will be named for the Nationals. It looks like a lot of repeat teams this year. Team Manitoba look strong to take the gold this year.

The only Provincial teams yet to be decided are Ontario which is holding a five team Championship starting Feb. 17, and Quebec where the Lennoxville CC's team received a late challenge from Quebec City and will host a two team event Feb 20-21.

There's one new face on the BC team, and one on the Nova Scotia team and unless I've forgotten someone or Ken Gregory loses in Ontario, that will pretty much be that for rookies, not counting the BC host team which will have two.

Kind of leaves the National championship as an empty win without the best team(s) there.
