Chris Daw to be GM of Vancouver Curling Club

Chris Daw, now retired from high-performance competition, will be moving to Vancouver later this month with his family (wife Morgan, and sons Kyle, Shane and TJ from an earlier marriage) to take up the position of General Manager at the Vancouver Curling Club. [read announcement HERE]

The club is about to begin its 60th year at its current location, and will be moving into the Hillcrest Olympic facility when it is retrofitted in summer 2011. The club will celebrate its centenary in 2012.

Chris and Morgan are expecting their first child early next March.

Coincidence, or timed due to the Armstrong injury?????

Read the first line......RETIRED!

Still seems a little unlikely due to the timing, AND Jim may be compromised for th season.

Does it not seem odd to everyone that Chris arrives in Vancouver, with a curling related job, and Jim is injured? And it happens in the same two or three week period?

Jim is done, and Chris is back, since the staff had no choice.

Enough of this foolishness. Jim's shoulder injury means that he will either play in pain or he will have an operation and play with hopefully less pain. None of this has anything to do with Chris moving to Vancouver.

Since Chris removed himself from Team Canada consideration, shortly before the team for the 2008 Worlds was announced, he has barely played, in major part because of a serious hip injury.

There will, however, be an opportunity to compete in the BC provincials, and if you want to speculate about something, how about who might be on a Team Daw in Juan De Fuca early next year.

Don't be too shortsighted, Eric. Have you talke to Peckham or the coaches?

It certainly seems ironic, at best, and until there is confirmation to the contrary, speculaation will continue.

Remeber, there has been a lot more money spent on Daw's development, and there is a ton of expectation on Canada for 2010. Without Jim, the only win was with Daw, albeit a long time ago, but no medals without either Daw or Armstrong.

I truly hope Jim is cleared to play, but keep in mind the dollars spent for a result next year.

Thank you Eric!

Even if it is coincidence, perhaps Chris should be ready to go?

The idea of Chris playing is ridiculous. The CCA and Jim have gone through a lot to get ready for 2010, and Jim will be there. And if not, he will continue to tutor Darryl. I am sure that even now, Darryl would strategically e ahead of Chris. Don't underestimate the impact of Jim's coaching

Is Daw still the "voice of the CCA" with promotions? I trust he will now be too busy with his new job to handle both.

Daw sucked a ton of money out of the sport, and the CCA.; He thought he was impervious to scrutiny, and would always be the center of our sport....ooopsss...then came Jim Armstrong, and the CCA had an alternative....there went Chris.....

Settle down. Chris WAS the start of the program in Canada. Writing was on the wall regarding his future, with the ongoing personality issues with the staf, and then along came Jim, and he knew he was done, so he has passed the torch with a smile.

Does make one wonder how much Chris would improve under Jim's coaching. Neighbour, Daw and Armstrong would be pretty formidable.

Any update on Jim's shoulder? I understan rehab could be as long as six months......

No surgery for Jim as yet, and with a potential six month rehab, he will not be able to get game ready, or get the team ready in time. I think his announcement regarding a year's retirement is imminent.

You heard it here first ......
Jim will announce at least a temprorary leave of absence from the team.

Expect the announcement by no later than this Tuesday
